Dental hygienists and assistants are critical healthcare professionals and the demand for more continues to rise. This course will help you understand the roles of a dental hygienist and dental assistant through a look at the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to be successful in the industry. Learn about the job responsibilities performed, essential skills, and interpersonal communication skills needed in these careers. In this bootcamp, you will also learn about Wake Tech course offerings that can help you achieve your career goal as a dental hygienist or dental assistant through a series of hands-on activities.
Course Objectives
  1. have developed a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a dental hygienist and dental assistant.
  2. have explored and gained basic knowledge and skills necessary for working as a dental hygienist or dental assistant.
  3. have explored skills and techniques utilized in the dental hygiene and dental assisting fields.
  4. have reviewed educational opportunities available for licensure.
Outline of Instruction
  1. Welcome, introductions, and overview
  2. Discuss, education and employment opportunities with success strategies for transitioning to the dental field
  3. Explore a variety of tasks routinely performed by dental hygienists and assistants such as: Infection Control/Personal Protective Equipment; X-rays on a mannikin; scaling instruments; sealants; blood pressure; ultrasonic scaling; 4-handed dentistry; polishing; and impressions
